Hello Skippers, Crew, and Supporters,
The 2nd Round Jamaica Yacht Race will commence at 12:00 hours Friday 30th November and will be started at The Grand Port Royal Hotel Marina by His Excellency the Most Honourable Sir Patrick L. Allen, ON, GCMG, CD, KSt.J.
As we edge closer to the start date, interest in the event has been steadily growing and we are looking forward to an extremely competitive race. Apart from local interest, several sailboats from around the Caribbean have made enquires I am delighted that this event will promote Jamaica as a sailing destination and is already generating international interest.
So, with just over one-hundred days to go before the non-stop race around Jamaica, here are a few updates.
Please ensure that you go to the website, at https://roundjamaica.com/, click on the RACING tag and fill in the online race registration form. If you have any queries, contact us via email: sail.roundjamaica.com or call +1-876-361-4959.
INTERNATIONAL RATING CERTIFICATE (IRC) HANDICAP
This year the RJYR will be held under IRC handicap rules. This means you will all need to have an IRC measurement certificate. We have negotiated to handle the applications on your behalf and requested a discount for all the sailboats who obtain new certificates. Details of costs will be subject to boat length. For more information, please contact us.
Most of the boats have standard hull data already on file with Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) so they can be used for the IRC certificate application. All we will need is to obtain the measurement of your sails to complete the form.
We are happy to help with this so please let us know as soon as you can.
If you are a visitor to Kingston, please ensure that you give us plenty of notice in order that arrangements can be made for berthing both prior to and after the race. Limited space will be available at the Royal Jamaica Yacht Club and at locations in Port Royal so please reserve a mooring early!
Some sponsors have already shown significant interest in supporting the RJYR. Details of corporate sponsorship will be circulated via the website and Facebook page within the next few weeks.
Each skipper and crew member will receive packages of hats, tee shirts, and other goodies prior to the race.
TRACKING YOUR PROGRESS
As we did during the inaugural RJYR, each sailboat will be fitted with a Hidden Technology™ GPS tracking device, allowing everyone to follow competing boats via a map on the website throughout the race in real time.
FURTHER INFORMATION AND UPDATES
Further updates and information about the arrangements for the event will be circulated via our website and Facebook page.
Looking forward to receiving your applications and seeing you on the start line! Best wishes,
