About Round Jamaica Yacht Race
In association with the Royal Jamaica Yacht Club (Kingston) the Round Jamaica Yacht Race (RJYR) is the first nonstop race around Jamaica for sailboats, without the use of engines.
The successful inaugural staging of the RJYR in 2016 was officially opened by the Governor General of Jamaica, Sir Patrick Allen, and was well received by members of the sailing fraternity and the general public. Seven sailboats with crews from across the island participated, although we did receive interest from persons in the wider Caribbean and further on the international scene, all of whom expressed interest to participate in the next event.
The race in 2016 was covered by SportsMax, which provided excellent coverage of the race, increasing awareness of sailing as a sport in Jamaica and was marketed towards the entire sporting arena. In addition to being broadcast on local media, we were able to allow the general public to follow the progress of the event throughout the race, via social media with the help of our international partner Hidden Technology. Hidden Technology provided tracking devices to each boat, with real-time weather forecasts and online photo and video updates from each boat.
